Getting married in Haderslev without Danish residence means a Friday ceremony between 10:00 and 12:00 at the town hall, in Danish, German or English. Because you have to register the day before, plan for two days.

Registration the day before: what you need to know
Haderslev requires you to register the day before the wedding. As couples without residence are only married on Fridays, that means a Thursday. So you will be in Haderslev on two consecutive days, and unless you live nearby, you will stay overnight.
The municipality's English page reminds you to bring valid passports and your “permission to stay”. If one of you needs a visa or residence permit for Denmark, bring that document; more in our guide to marrying in Denmark on a Schengen visa.
The municipality does not say exactly where and at what time you register. Its contact address is Christian X's Vej 39, entrance A. Ask for the time in advance by emailing vielser@haderslev.dk, so your Thursday journey stays relaxed.
The wedding day: Friday at the town hall
Ceremonies take place at Haderslev town hall (Haderslev Rådhus), Christian X's Vej 39. According to the Danish page, all ceremonies are held in the building at entrance B. On Fridays the municipality provides both witnesses, so you do not need to bring anyone. When municipalities provide witnesses and when they do not is covered in our guide to witnesses in Denmark.
The ceremony is held in Danish, German or English. If one of you understands none of the three, check with the municipality beforehand whether you need an interpreter; Kolding, for example, requires one in that case. More in our interpreter guide.

What does a wedding in Haderslev cost?
Haderslev states no fee for a ceremony at the town hall. There is a price only for a ceremony outside the town hall: DKK 550 plus travel costs. That matches the situation since August 2025, when the City of Copenhagen concluded in its own legal review that there is no legal basis for charging for ceremonies at the town hall. According to that review, only the actual extra costs may be charged when a couple wants to marry somewhere else.

What the municipality does not publish
Some questions are not answered on the municipality's pages. That does not mean something is impossible, only that you need to ask:
- The municipality does not publish how long you wait for a free Friday or how far ahead you can book.
- The time and exact place of the registration the day before are missing.
- The Danish page also lists Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00, with your own witnesses. That page is aimed at couples living in Denmark; whether Saturdays are open to couples from abroad is not confirmed. Other Saturday options are in our guide to getting married on a Saturday or on the beach.
- The price of DKK 550 plus travel costs for a ceremony outside the town hall appears only on the Danish page. Whether couples without residence can book this is best asked directly.
So before you apply, email vielser@haderslev.dk and ask about free Fridays and the registration time. Familieretshuset itself recommends checking which municipality has free dates before applying, because it sends the approval to the municipality you name in your application.

Haderslev or Tønder?
Tønder is the more popular choice: in 2024, international couples named it the fourth most often as their preferred municipality in applications to Familieretshuset, while Haderslev was not in the top ten. The key differences:

Haderslev suits you if you want to stay a night anyway and a Friday fits your calendar. Tønder suits you if you want to go and return on the same day or can take a Tuesday or Thursday.
