Book and send your case number
Book online and send us the case number from your approval letter (it starts with WZ) and your preferred dates.

Sign the power of attorney
We send you the power of attorney ready to sign. You both sign it by hand, with place and date, and send us a photo or scan.

We request the change
We ask municipalities with free dates and ask Familieretshuset to forward your approval there. Then we arrange your date with the municipality.

- The case number from your approval letter (WZ…)
- Your full names as in your passports
- The power of attorney, signed by hand by both of you
- Your preferred dates and whether you bring your own witnesses

Questions about changing municipality
How long does the change take?
Familieretshuset decides; there is no fixed deadline. For our most recent requests the confirmation came after one to two working days, but it can take longer.
Does our approval stay valid?
Yes. The change only replaces the municipality. Your approval stays valid for four months from the day it was issued.
Do you have access to the municipalities' calendars?
No. We are in touch with many municipalities all the time, ask on your behalf and therefore usually know where dates are still free.
Do we need our own witnesses?
That depends on the municipality. Some provide two witnesses on weekdays, others ask you to bring your own, almost always on Saturdays. We tell you beforehand what applies in your new municipality.
Can't we request the change ourselves?
You can, through Familieretshuset's contact form. Familieretshuset recommends clarifying first which municipality has a free date, though. That is exactly what we do, plus the power of attorney and the arrangements with the municipality.
We don't have an approval yet. What fits then?
Essential or Complete. Complete includes one change of municipality, in case your preferred municipality has no date.
